Queer Producers Incubator 2026

Five emerging queer-identifying producers developing a long-form project will take part in a four-month mentorship programme

Applications closed on Tues 14 April, 5pm

The Queer Producers Incubator is a two-day workshop, to support and upskill five emerging queer identifying producers who have at least one project in development.

The workshop takes place on on Fri 22nd and Sat 23rd May 2026 in Tāmaki Makaurau, and will be an intensive two days with sessions from guest speakers tailored to the group including:

  • Supporting a team through story development

  • Upskilling in pitching, funding and financing

  • Creating safe spaces in development, production, and marketing.

Participants then receive one-on-one mentorship about the project they are developing and their career.

The aim is to upskill queer producers, progressing them further in their careers while supporting a project they are currently developing.

N.B. For successful applicants from outside of Tāmaki Makaurau, travel and accommodation to attend the workshop will be covered by Proud Voices On Screen.

  • Applications close: Tues 14 April, 5pm

Applicants notified of outcome by Thurs 30 April.

Workshop dates are Fri 22 and Sat 23 May in Tāmaki Makaurau.

Mentorship will take place between June - September 2026.

  • Applicants need to have at least one long-form project in development - a series, documentary or feature film.

Applicants can list up to two projects.

Shorts are eligible too but only as a second project when the producer is also developing one of these other project formats.

  • The aim of the initiative is to support emerging queer producers in their journey to becoming a producer.

The programme suits those who are stepping into the producer role and may not have had a lot of guidance or access to mentorship so far.

We’re looking to hear from any queer producers who would like access to upskilling, support and mentorship and have at least one series, documentary or feature film in development.

  • Do I have to have produced projects before to be eligible?

No - it’s not essential. Any queer producer who has at least one series, documentary or feature film in development (any stage of development) is eligible to apply.

This initiative is made possible with financial support from the New Zealand Film Commission Te Tumu Whakaata Taonga
